completely pointless imo, whats the point of them being officers if they don't have any power?

Heres my thought, in the army, a captain cannot promote someone to captain...The person to promote has to be of higher importance.

And @ Flaming, Officers can recruit, unfortunatly the can promote ppl and they can kcik members...Where did you have ANY idea they have no power?

It's fine the way it is...deal with it or create your own guild.

As a Guild Leader I don't see why not that is what officers are for.

I think only the leader of the guild should decide who should become an officer.

In a guild, officers have special abilities which are there to assist the leader with managing the guild. The guild can develop their own policies. If you don't want people promoting other members to officer, don't make them officer in the first place.

@Kole - The lore of the game is clear that the guilds were not intended to be an army but rather a display of wealth and power which the kings were not able to regulate very well. They're not intended to act like an army, but rather like a club that caters to the needs of the particular members, providing services and options which aren't available to the regular folk.

Basically they make their own rules and decide how they help or influence society. In fact, the GuildWars broke out partially because the kings of tyria were unable to impose proper rule and control. That is up to the guild leader and however you want to run your guild is your decision, but people don't like being in dictator-like guilds where they have no power and no hope for recognition.

No point in taking away that power. For one thing, it's giving the leader most of the responsibility and control considering that aspect. That can be very risky as some guilds may have their leader become absent for a period of time, making the members just sit around and wait until they can ask and become an officer. This would only hurt the guild rooster concept, actually. /unsigned

And then people wonder why guilds poop.
For all I care - give EVERYONE the ability to promote, invite, kill off the guild. I don't see why I'd even want to have someone in my guild that I can't trust with those abilities.
Simple solution - just stop handing out invites to every dumbass you meet.

Seriously this is right.

Ever had or been in a guild where the leader refused to promote anyone because they wanted dictatorial control? Without power to invite/guest/play GvG without the leader being on, it takes one tempban or absense in playing from the leader for the guild to fall completely apart.

Having the option to delegate powers as see fit would be really cool (especially if needlessly complex beurocratic systems could be created), but ultimately a pointless waste in Anet's manpower.

In some cases it's ok because co-leaders will show up as Officers on the guild roster, but in most, It's just someones friend that probably doesn't deserve to be an officer.

There are definitely a few reasons an officer is the GL's friend. He knows them in person probably, which means if the officer messes with the GL's guild, The GL can kick his A** in PERSON. lol

And 2 - The friend is an officer probably because the GL can trust his friends. That makes perfect sense.

Completely and utterly QFT.

The guild I'm in right now has 70 accounts (roughly 55-60ish members, quite a few storage accounts), all of which are officer. The account in the GL spot is a storage account which about a dozen or more people have access to at any given time. This allows us to run a guild based on equality. If you misbehave, you would be removed - but this has never happened. If you're careful enough with your recruitment process, you should have no trouble whatsoever with the guild tools that are available.

This suggestion is purely to cater for idiocy. It's because someone was idiotic and added a new member, promoted them to officer immediately only to have them kick others.

Game mechanics do not need to change just because some people were born without a few braincells. It's absolutely fine as is and does not need to be changed.

You are completely wrong. The priviledge for officers to promote should be something the Guild leader would have to configure. You could easily promote someone that actually made you believe they were worthy enough and totally do something cuthroat such as kick off everyone from the guild. It's not about idiocy, it's about better control. Maybe you are really against this because you feel Anet would give you some benefit for kissing up to them, but this is to be....

I've had a situation where an officer was drunk and promoted someone instead of kicking them.... I was away for the weekend then get a call from said drunkard about it..... I then had to log in and demote the person.....

TBH.... a Leader should chose the officers, not other officers. A leadership is all about trust and knowing who you trust to be an officer. No one promotes in my guild other than me. All officers are asked about potential promotions also.

A leader can demote, a leader should promote. Officers can recruit / kick etc... they shouldnt also decide a friend can be an officers and if others disagree what happens? The leader then has to demote again... by then all hell may have broken loose....

Hmm what happened to KISS... was that not rogue officers kicking people...? Trust far too important...
